Sunday Apr 19, 2020
Sunday Apr 19, 2020
Today on Moments of Clarity, I speak to Dr Vhairi Mackintosh. Vhairi is an earth scientist by trade who, after realising that she could turn her passion for engaging young people in science and technology into her day job, made the jump from research into education a couple of years ago. Currently, she works as part of a new Victorian state government initiative equipping young people with the skills they need for the future world of work. Vhairi is particularly passionate about building confidence in young women when working with new technologies and hopes that her current work may play a small part in increasing female representation in STEM. During the conversation we discuss growing up in Scotland, education, science, academia and career pathways, how we are travelling in the Age of Covid, the optimism young people bring and much more. Vhairi currently works at Whittlesea Tech School in Epping, Melbourne and you can follow her in twitter @vhairi_mack or @WhittleseaTS. BONUS EPISODE - A Yarn with Barn and Kyle
Wednesday Apr 15, 2020
Wednesday Apr 15, 2020
Hi everyone. Something different for you today. I have released a conversation I had with my mate Kyle as a bonus episode. A Yarn with Barn will continue to be randomly released whenever I decide to record a conversation with a friend. So please let me know what you think. The sound quality is not as good as it normally is but you will get used to it. Normal episodes will continue to be released every Friday.
Kyle and I have been friends since early high school and have been close ever since. I spent 3 months in southern Africa with Kyle as my first overseas trip in 2010 and have navigated much of my adult life with Kyle by my side. We have both changed quite a bit from those 21 year old kids travelling across the world but am pretty proud of who he has become. I think you will find Kyle pretty switched on and insightful as well as very genuine.
You may also have noticed that I have joined the online world of social media so please find me on facebook or instagram @momentsofclaritypodcast or on twitter @BarneyMOC. As always, please subscribe, leave a review and share with your friends and family.

Episode Eight - 'Advocating for the Natural World' with James Hattam
Saturday Apr 11, 2020
Saturday Apr 11, 2020
Today on Moments of Clarity, I speak to James Hattam. James is a conservation ecologist and has been working with government and not-for-profits in Victoria and Tasmania for more than ten years, with experience in conservation covenants, philanthropic programs, marketing, communications, community engagement and not-for-profit governance. James is currently CEO at Tasmanian Land Conservancy and is also a board member for Island Magazine. During the conversation we discuss growing up in Fiji, the importance of good teachers, passions and values, democracy and politics, the divorce between the built and natural worlds, following your instincts and learning from experience. I was truly inspired by James’ optimism, pragmatism and the way he simply gets on with the job no matter how large the challenge is. My name is Barney and if you enjoy this episode, please subscribe, leave a review and share.

Episode Five - Rali's Story
Sunday Mar 15, 2020
Sunday Mar 15, 2020
Today on Moments of Clarity, I have a conversation with my friend Rali. Rali is a freelance filmmaker and moved to Australia as a refugee when he was 18. I was fascinated and touched by Rali's openness to tell his story. A story of trauma, loss, pain, statelessness, migration, hope and appreciation. Moments of Clarity aims to open up the hearts and minds of people through stories told by everyday people about their values, experiences and perspectives. Although this conversation can be perceived as political in nature, it was simply the story of a man who is sharing his lived experience. As always, I share these conversations with positive intentions. My name is Barney and if you enjoy this episode, please subscribe, leave a review and share.

Moments of Clarity
Moments of Clarity is a podcast hosted by Matthew Sortino and Toby Kent. Through analytical, honest and uplifting conversations, Matt and Toby delve into the personal and professional lives of a diverse range of guests. They garner the vision, expertise, as well as the more everyday qualities of those who align their values and their actions. In cutting through the noise of a world overloaded with information and disinformation, they are also willing to engage with those whose values may not immediately align with their own. It makes for an insightful and entertaining mix.
Matthew Sortino
Matthew Sortino began Moments of Clarity in January 2020 as a way to bring his daily thoughts and innate curiosity to life. Frustrated by the information overload, constant negativity and polarised nature of online communication he decided to create a podcast that cut through that noise and explore, through honest and open conversation, how inspiring individuals come to not only identify their values but make the world a better place by living by them each and every day. Matthew is an educator based in Melbourne, Australia, working across primary and secondary schools for over a decade. He loves to travel, read, exercise and spend time with friends and family. He lives with his wonderful partner, their daughter and they are expecting a second child very soon. After a successful first 50 episodes of Moments of Clarity, Matthew is now joined by former guest, guest-host, friend and now official co-host, Toby Kent.
Toby Kent
Toby Kent is an expert in sustainable development and resilience. Before moving to Australia, Toby spent two decades working across five continents to help major corporate, government, and non-government organisations achieve their commercial and operational objectives in more sustainable ways. He has the distinction of being the first person in Australia to hold the title of Chief Resilience Officer, a position he performed for metropolitan Melbourne for over five years. Moments of Clarity is a way for Toby to explore his passions, challenge his own preconceptions, and make bad jokes.
