3.7 ’The Importance of Community’ with Mark McKenzie-McHarg
Tuesday Aug 30, 2022
Tuesday Aug 30, 2022
Our guest today on Moments of Clarity is Mark McKenzie-McHarg.Mark is principal of Mach 2 Consulting, a Victorian consultancy which he co-founded in 1993. Prior to this, he had 5 years consulting experience with KPMG Management Consulting, as a senior consultant and then as an associate director. This followed 10 years public sector experience in local government management in metropolitan Melbourne.
Mark’s work in the public and private sectors has given him broad-ranging consulting experience in organisations as diverse as municipal councils, water authorities and merchant banks. The types of consulting engagements he has managed range from high level strategic and business planning to feasibility analysis, business case evaluation and leadership training programs.
Mark lives in the rural town of Yackandandah in North-East Victoria where he has a deep connection with the community. In March, 2002 a notice appeared in the window of the High Street petrol station announcing that it would be closing in ten days time. It was the only petrol station in the surrounding area and marked a potential decline of the town. Mark, along with six other people, decided to do something positive about it and formed a company called the Yackandandah Community Development Company Pty Ltd (YCDCo). Mark now pours much of his energy in community ventures around regional Victoria and building a sustainable and thriving future for the regions.

3.1 ’Laughing in the Face of Trauma’ with Fady Kassab
Wednesday May 11, 2022
Wednesday May 11, 2022
In today's episode of Moments of Clarity, Matt and Toby talk to Fady Kassab. Fady is a stand-up comedian based in Sydney, Australia. Although he entered comedy later in life, Fady has certainly hit the ground running. As the 2019 winner of Triple J’s RAW comedy competition, Fady soon went on to perform at The Gilded Balloon, one of the largest and best-known venues at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where he made the grand finals of the long-running ‘So you Think You’re Funny’ comedy competition. Fady has performed at Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney comedy festivals as well writing and starring on ABCs, Question Everything.
As you will hear, Fady really does question everything and he has every right to. Fady was born in Lebanon and as a child had the horrific experience of having tanks roll past his house as Israel invaded. Fady talks about this being the end of innocence for him and as we find out during the podcast, the trauma of living through 17 years of war not only inspires Fady’s comedy but really brings it to life. Along with stories of marriage, divorce, kids and the rising cost of living, Fady incorporates a social and political commentary that is based on lived experience. He understands that the purpose of comedy is not simply to make you laugh but to make you think as well. Raw, honest and opinionated yet humble, mindful and kind, Fady certainly made us think in this conversation.

The 50th and final episode of Moments of Clarity, with me, Matthew Sortino, as the guest. Toby Kent is our host today and you will be hearing much more from him as Moments of Clarity relaunches in April 2022. Thanks to everyone that helped me reach 50 episodes. Moments of Clarity
Moments of Clarity is a podcast hosted by Matthew Sortino and Toby Kent. Through analytical, honest and uplifting conversations, Matt and Toby delve into the personal and professional lives of a diverse range of guests. They garner the vision, expertise, as well as the more everyday qualities of those who align their values and their actions. In cutting through the noise of a world overloaded with information and disinformation, they are also willing to engage with those whose values may not immediately align with their own. It makes for an insightful and entertaining mix.
Matthew Sortino
Matthew Sortino began Moments of Clarity in January 2020 as a way to bring his daily thoughts and innate curiosity to life. Frustrated by the information overload, constant negativity and polarised nature of online communication he decided to create a podcast that cut through that noise and explore, through honest and open conversation, how inspiring individuals come to not only identify their values but make the world a better place by living by them each and every day. Matthew is an educator based in Melbourne, Australia, working across primary and secondary schools for over a decade. He loves to travel, read, exercise and spend time with friends and family. He lives with his wonderful partner, their daughter and they are expecting a second child very soon. After a successful first 50 episodes of Moments of Clarity, Matthew is now joined by former guest, guest-host, friend and now official co-host, Toby Kent.
Toby Kent
